Surface 1.2.1b 🐐
G'day everyone! Today's Thursday, and like always, I couldn't wait to release the new beta so that you can enjoy the newest features as soon as possible! This update promises to be massive, so let's launch into it!
Changelog ⚙️
Although this update isn't about a lot of features, but instead about their details, the changelog was still split into separate sections!
Entities 🐌
» Grizzly Bear is a new mob that spawns in the Taiga biomes. Killing a Grizzly Bear will drop its fur, which is the main reason why you may want to explore the vasts of Taiga to find them.
💡Currently, Grizzly Bears don't attack back, which will be changed in future updates.
Tweaks 🔧
» Spruce Saplings now grow into overhauled Spruce trees instead of Vanilla ones.
» The Snail Shells have undergone a major overhaul. Previously, it cost 3 XP levels to apply it to an item, regardless of how many times you had already applied it. However, now the cost of applying the enchantment to an item increases by 2 levels each time you add it to that specific item. Here's an example of how it works in practice:
Let's say you crafted a new diamond pickaxe, and you want to apply a Snail Shell to it. The cost would be 3 XP levels. Later on, your Snail Shell breaks while you're mining, and you decide to add a new one to the pickaxe. At this point, you'll notice that the cost has increased by 2 levels, so it will now cost 5 XP levels to apply the shell to that specific pickaxe.
💡If you're into math, this will explain it way easier: T(timesApplied) = 3 + (timesApplied * 2)
Items ⛏️
» Grizzly's Fur is a new item that can be obtained by killing Grizzly Bears. It can be used to craft Backpacks
» Backpack is a new type of portable storage. You can craft it from Grizzly's Fur, Wool, Leather, and a Chest. Backpacks always have 18 Slots, where you can put any items you want. Backpacks are also dyeable, so you can customize them as much as you want!
Right-clicking a backpack in hand will open its GUI, but here's a nice trick for you: You can wear a backpack on your back to quickly open it by pressing [B] by default.
Surface 1.2.0b 🐐
G'day everyone! I'm happy to announce Surface 1.2.0b, the newest beta of Surface which is the first in the 1.2 update. The 1.2 update will mainly focus on overhauling taiga and mountain biomes, 1.2.0b is no exception, it already brings some exciting features to the game!
Changelog ⚙️
World Generation 🌍
World Generation is no doubt the main addition to the 1.2.0b. Why you may ask? Well, the taiga biome had never been so fancy as it is now.
💡As always, the Gallery tab is the best way to see how Surface overhauls the world.
» Custom Foliage Placer Type allowed me to make taiga truly stand out. Every spruce tree now has a newly overhauled foliage placer.
» Taiga Overhaul also happened in this update. Just like forests and plains in the last updates, Taiga now has custom features, such as fallen trees, rocks, and stumps.
💡Overhauled Monster Rooms now also spawn in Taiga biomes, so you can be sure Surface also takes care of the newest biomes.
Items ⛏️
» Copper Goat Horn is a fully new item, which can be crafted in the anvil by combining regular goat horn with copper ingot.
Using Copper Goat Horn will help you find your pets within a 32-block radius. It works similarly to how the bell locates pillagers nearby.
Besides that, the pitch of the sound depends on the angle you look while using the horn. Looking high in the sky will give you a high pitch while looking at the ground will lead to a low pitch.
Surface 1.0 🪵
G'day everyone! I couldn't wait to announce the Surface 1.0 Release 🥳 It's time to polish things up, so you can play Surface more smoothly than ever! Without further ado, let's move on to the changelog.
Changelog ⚙️
Just like always, the changelog was split into separate sections, so you can easily navigate through them.
Blocks 🧱
» Slate is a new block that generates in the World. It's purely decorative, but I'm sure you'll find a lot of opportunities to build with it. You can also craft Stairs, Slabs, and Walls out of it.
💡 Playing in your world for a long time and cannot find Slate? Don't worry, check out the Recipe Book and craft it using Tuff and Cobblestone!
» Polished Slate is a variant of Slate that looks much fancier for your elegant builds. You can easily craft it from 4x Slate and then convert it into Stairs, Slabs, and Walls if you feel like it!
World Generation 🌎
Worldgen is an essential part of Surface, so in 1.0, I decided to smooth things up a bit.
» Structured Rocks now can spawn in different directions, which allows them to look naturally.
» Structured Rocks now also spawn in Birch Forests and contain Slate.
» Large Oaks now spawn in Forests, just like they did before.
» Oldgrowth Birch Forest Trees were the same as Birch Forest ones before. It was tweaked a bit, so now you'll clearly see them being taller.
» Beehives now have a greater chance to spawn on Birch Trees.
Tweaks 🔧
» Shell Particles that spawn after a snail shell breaks, now spawn on the right position.
» Rocks are now craftable into cobblestone, which allows you to get some materials without the need to go deep underground.
Bug Fixes 🐞
💡 Special Thanks to our Discord Members, who helped me a lot by pointing out those bugs <3
» Anvil Screen Handler was rewritten to ensure a smoother experience and resolve a lot of incompatibility issues with other mods.
💡 Couldn't play Surface with your favorite mods before? Try it now, hopefully, you'll be able to do so! If you still cannot, please report the bug.
» Items now can be repaired in the anvil. This was a crucial bug, which was fixed once I discovered it.
Surface 0.1.2 🪵
G'day everyone! While it may seem surprising that the new update, Surface 0.1.2, is already out, it is simply a quick bug fix that won't affect the upcoming update on Thursday.
Chagelog ⚙️
Tweaks 🔧
» Hollowed Logs no longer drop themselves with a 50% chance after being broken.
Surface 0.1.1 🪵
G'day everyone! It's time to get yourself a new Surface beta! Without further ado, let's move on to the changelog!
Changelog ⚙️
The 0.1.1 update aims to overhaul Monster Rooms, which is the main addition in this update.
💡 Due to the fact, that Surface only updates Forests and Plains for now, new Monster Room features spawn only in those biomes. This is because, in the future, mobs and blocks in Monster Rooms will depend on the biome they spawn in.
World Generation 🌎
» Monster Room Overhaul is a new, fresh-looking, and fully overhauled Monster Room. To keep things vanilla, it mainly changes its appearance to ensure that vanilla game vibe
💡 Check out the Gallery page for images of the Monster Room overhaul, as well as other biomes Surface overhauls.
Tweaks 🔧
» Translation is now available for other languages except English. Them being German and Russian.
💡 Want to play Surface in your native language? Join our Discord and suggest your language in the #Suggestions channel!
Surface 0.1 🪵
G'day everyone! The first-ever beta of Surface is finally out, bringing many new features! Without further ado, let's move on to the Changelog, so you'll have fun exploring an overhauled world of Minecraft.
Changelog ⚙️
Although it's the first beta, Surface has already a lot to offer. That's why the Changelog was split into several sections.
Blocks 🧱
» Sludge is a new block that can be found near water. Due to the fact, that sludge is wet, you can place a Sugar Cane on top without the need for a water block nearby. Sludge can also be crafted from 2x Dirt and 2x Mud.
💡 Check out the recipe book for every new recipe Surface has to offer
» Dried Sludge is a second block of the Sludge family. You can either find it in the world or smelt a regular sludge in the furnace. Dried Sludge doesn't serve any purpose, which makes it purely decoration block.
» Dried Sludge Bricks is yet another block of the Sludge family. Just like any other brick type, you can make Stairs, Slabs, and Walls out of it.
💡 Try building with those new blocks, you'll like them!
» Rock is another block that Surface brings to the table. It generates in the world of Minecraft, often enough, so you can be sure you'll find one pretty quickly. It behaves just like Sea Pickles do, you can place up to 3 rocks in one block. Additionally, rocks can even be rotated in every direction.
» Stumps can be found in the world of Minecraft, mainly in the forests. There is grand total of 8 stumps, one for every Wood Type in the game. They can also be rotated, allowing you new ways to incorporate them into your builds.
💡 If you only need a few planks, but don't want to chop down a forest, you should look after Stumps - they can be crafted into 3x Planks of their respective type.
» Hollowed Logs are a feature that Mojang wanted to add in 1.19, but unfortunately, weren't able to. Luckily, Surface took care of them! You can now find them in forests, as fallen trees.
World Generation 🌎
As you may have noticed, Surface aims to fully overhaul the vanilla World Generation. To allow you to play Surface earlier, I've decided to stick with only Forest, Birch Forest, and Plains biomes for now, this makes it possible to post the first beta way quicker.
💡Surface will fully overhaul the world of Minecraft in the future, this is only a beta!
» Rocks are a new type of feature that is generated in the world. To avoid any misunderstanding, I'll refer to them as Structured Rocks. They can be generated out of any type of stone, and have some rocks on top.
» Fallen Trees are yet another new type of feature Surface brings into the game. They generate in the Forests and can be covered with moss and mushrooms.
» Fancy Trees are a fancy way to generate trees. In 1.19 concept arts, you may have noticed a new type of trunk in the birch forest. Surface also took care of it and now trees are generated with this kind of Trunk.
💡Check out the Gallery page to find images of Biomes that Surface has already overhauled.
Entities
» Snail is a fully new entity, that Surface brings to the game. During rain, there is a 10% chance to find them while breaking Hollowed Logs. If you got lucky and found one - don't kill it! Snails love wet weather, and once the rain ends, they will get into their shells, and you'll get a Snail Shell.
Items
» Snail Shell is a new Item that can only be obtained from Snails, and only in case it gets into its shell after rain. Snail Shells allow you to protect your Items from breaking. You can apply a Snail Shell on any breakable item in the anvil. Think of them as Totem of Undying for items. When a protected Item should break, the snail shell will break instead, and give your item 5% of additional durability.
