I like turning off natural regen on my worlds, and installing a datapack that heals you when you sleep, but I was always a little disappointed, because I prefer to avoid sleeping as a mechanic. This is my solution.
A few things are modified for the purposes of this datapack, and you should be aware of them:
- Your world's natural regeneration will be turned off! Having full health no longer affects your regeneration.
- You won't be able to skip night anymore! This is to force you to survive the night, while giving beds a different purpose.
Now, when you sleep in beds, you'll slowly fall asleep. As you rest, you'll heal 3 hearts every few seconds. The hungrier you are, the slower you heal. You'll lose hunger as you sleep, so make sure to keep some food on hand. You may even wake up because you're too hungry to keep resting!
I've intentionally not had the datapack modify phantom behavior. You may disable phantoms altogether by running /gamerule doInsomnia false
, but beware that you won't be able to get phantom membranes anymore.
I also recommend a mod that allows you to sleep during the day. This will allow you to nap at any time, making healing more available.
